This week, police responded to three separate incidents outside Drake’s mansion in Toronto, all of which transpired amid a weeks-long feud between the Canadian rapper and Kendrick Lamar. The first happened early Tuesday morning, when a security guard working at the property was injured in a drive-by shooting, the Toronto Sun reported. According to the paper, a 48-year-old man was hit with multiple gunshots around 2 a.m. while standing outside the gates. He was brought to a nearby hospital for surgery with what the Sun said were not life-threatening wounds.
Drake was reportedly unharmed, and police weren’t able to confirm whether he was inside the $100 million house, which is in an affluent area of the city called Bridle Path. Toronto police shared on X that the suspect “fled in a vehicle” and that no arrests have been made. During a press conference Tuesday morning, police said there was no known motive and that it was too early to know if it had anything to do with Drake and Lamar’s feud, which has involved each man accusing the other of abuse. Based on police data, gun violence in Toronto is 63 percent higher than it was at this time last year.
Drake’s team is reportedly cooperating with authorities, and police said the shooting had been captured on video. In a statement, Toronto police told the Cut that the victim is still in the hospital and that the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, less than 48 hours later, police were called to Drake’s house again Wednesday afternoon to apprehend an intruder who they say “attempted to gain access to the property.” The trespasser was taken into custody under the Ontario Mental Health Act, a law that allows police to apprehend people seemingly suffering from a mental-health disorder so they can get medical treatment. Police told the press that no criminal charges were being brought.
A third incident took place Thursday afternoon, when police arrested a trespasser who’d gotten in what a police spokesperson described as an “altercation” with security guards outside Drake’s mansion. Toronto police told the Cut that the trespasser was taken to the hospital and they are “currently investigating.”
